Roger’s Maxims
Over the years, one thing has because exceedingly clear to me… people like working with people that think the way that they do… particularly when it comes to core values. That said, here a few ideas that I believe to be true:
Government does not operate the same way as private industry in that there is no profit motive. As such, it is inherently inefficient. Everything it has was taken from individuals and businesses via taxation. To give any more money to government to waste… over-and-above the absolute minimum allowable by law is an abomination… and even that is far too much.
It’s been said by many people, in many ways… anything worth doing, is worth doing right.
You’ve heard it… “Time is Money”. A stickler for efficiency, I’ve learned that a well-crafted system… replete with checks and balances… yields the most cost-effective work and predictable outcomes.
A well thought out system increases efficiency, thereby decreasing time spent… while minimizing errors, resulting in increased profits.
A challenge is not something to be avoided, but embraced. For only when we are challenged do we grow and improve.
Life experiences have unleashed the contrarian in me. Not only are things in many cases not what they appear to be, they are, in fact, quite the opposite. The trick is to see through the subterfuge, get at the truth, and act accordingly to benefit from situations that result in losses to the generally uninformed (or misinformed) rank and file.
When something has gone wrong, whether at a client’s business, or otherwise, I do not look to place blame on a person. Rather, I see it as opportunity to bring my auditor mentality to bear, to ascertain the systemic reason it was even possible for such an error to occur, and adjust the system at its core. In other words… address the cause, not the symptom.
