What it Will Take to Build a Better Automotive Battery Supply Chain

As posted to the Climate One YouTube page on 7/17/23 Run Time 58 minutes, 47 seconds (when beginning at Time Stamp 21:33) Climate One clip description: Demand for lithium ion batteries is expected to grow 500% by 2030, and the race for raw materials is on. Lithium mines around the world are opening or expanding, while children as young as six in the Congo carry sacks of cobalt-laced rocks on their backs for less than $2 a day. Recycling presents promising opportunities, yet before millions of batteries can be recycled, they have to be made in the first place. At the same time, advances in battery chemistry continue to be made, and it’s not hard to imagine a near future when batteries don’t require lithium or cobalt at...

JB Straubel on Recycling EV Batteries to Create a Closed-Loop System

As posted to the Redwood Materials YouTube page on 8/11/22 Run Time 41 minute, 15 seconds In this clip, JB Straubel, Founder & CEO of Redwood Materials and Tesla co-founder & former CTO details how recycling lithium-ion batteries will cost effectively help EV demand & supply chain needs.  Of concern however is that legacy automotive manufacturers haven’t “done the math” on attaining the raw materials needed to produce batteries in their transition to electric vehicles, and skepticism among mining companies about the future demand of EVs and the truly massive transformation of industry necessary to transition the world to a sustainable energy economy. JB believes that it is going to be challenging for auto makers coming into EV production a bit late. Securing enough supply of batteries...

Tesla Model Y 4680 Structural Battery Pack Analysis

As posted to the Munro Live YouTube Channel on 7/5/2022 (Run Time 17 min, 23 sec) The team at Munro & Associates just dropped the structural battery pack (with 4680 cells) out of their brand-new Texas-made Tesla Model Y.  What they found is something that they've never seen . . . ever.  The seats, console, carpet, etc. are mounted to the structural battery pack which can be removed in one assembly from the bottom of the car.  Just the improvement to the ease of putting together the inside of the car on the assembly line when you're coming up from below because there is no floor is phenomenal.  But there's more. Ways Your Can Stop Tracking Links

As posted to the Naomi Brockwell YouTube Channel on 5/21/22 (Run Time: 9 min, 17 sec) In this informative video, Naomi Brockwell provides a primer on how tracking links work, and offers suggestions for identifying/bypassing them, and using a browser that does the best job at circumventing them. The author's outline of the clip on YouTube is as follows: Tracking links are a way for sites to track you across the web. They usually look like super long strings of random numbers attached to the end of normal URLs, and companies use them to build up dossiers on people based on their browsing habits. And they can reveal VERY sensitive information about you! What is Naomi's recommendation for an optimal privacy preserving browser?  Brave. (This is Blog Post #1229) Naomi Brockwell is...

Rethinking Humanity

As posted to the RethinkX YouTube Channel on 11/04/2021 (Run Time 32 min, 32 sec) We are on the cusp of the fastest, deepest and most consequential transformation of civilization in history.  Yet while humanity is on the brink of this existential transformation, we’re blind to the deeper processes of change. "Rethinking Humanity" takes viewers on a whirlwind tour of the rise and fall of civilizations through a powerful lens that makes sense of the past, so that we can step into the present and create our future. Throughout history, the inability to see what is going on left society looking inward and backwards.  Desperate for stability and certainty.  Incapable of making a different choice.  The unavoidable result each time were efforts to patch up an order already in...

Which OEMs Will Survive the End of the ICE Age?

As posted to the Munro Live YouTube Channel on 11/24/2021 (Run Time 46 min, 32 sec) Regarding the accelerating move to EVs, legendary automotive engineer Sandy Munro believes that OEMs are experiencing Scotoma, aka Paradigm Paralysis.  They cannot physiologically see the data that is unfolding around them.  When a paradigm shifts, success in the old paradigm will block your vision of the future.  When a paradigm changes, everything goes back to zero.  Your past success means nothing. GM promised 20 new EVs by 2023, yet they brought zero to the recent 2021 LA Auto Show. The EV technology disruption happening in the automotive industry is of an order of magnitude such that many OEMs simply will not survive.  Who's going to win when one company (or country) is thinking...

New Digital Asset Reporting Requirements are Coming

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) was signed into law on November 15, 2021. It includes new information reporting requirements that will generally apply to digital asset transactions starting in 2023. Cryptocurrency exchanges will be required to perform intermediary Form 1099 reporting for cryptocurrency transactions. Existing reporting rules If you have a stock brokerage account, whenever you sell stock or other securities, you receive a Form 1099-B after the end of the year. Your broker uses the form to report transaction details such as sale proceeds, relevant dates, your tax basis and the character of gains or losses. In addition, if you transfer stock from one broker to another broker, the old broker must furnish a statement with relevant information, such as tax basis, to the...
